Free Lake Robinson celebration scheduled Oct. 21

The Friends of Lake Robinson will hold a free day of celebration on Sunday, Oct. 21 at Verne Smith Park from 1-6 p.m.

The event raises the visibility and highlights the character of the Lake Robinson community.

Activities include:

• A casting contest

• Fishing simulator

• Inflatables

• Kayaks and canoes

• Stewardship Fair with organizations sharing ideas about protecting the lake and environs, enjoying the plant and animal life and living together with nature.

The Rotary Club of Greater Greer will provide hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and drinks.

• 1-3 p.m. Joe Beam and his band.

• 3-5 p.m. Locust Grove Bluegrass Band.

Attendees should bring blankets and chairs.

Proceeds pay for the event and activities and supports local high school scholarships.

Sponsors are: City of Greer Parks and Recreation Department and Stormwater Division; the Rotary Club of Greater Greer; Greer Commission of Public Works (CPW), and Blue Ridge Rural Water Company.

The park is located next to the Lake Robinson dam off Mays Bridge Road. Call Tom Faulkner at 430-3023 for more information.
