The grand opening of GrandSouth Bank Wednesday made it a keystone on a section of prime real estate of Wade Hampton Blvd.

Jack Lucas, Greer market manager of GrandSouth, and his daughter, Heidi, cut the ceremonial ribbon. However the ribbon was a roll of $20 bills, symbolic in that $500 was contributed to Greer Community Ministries and to the Greer High School booster club. “We feel it’s important to be part of the Greer community,” Lucas said.

Lucas’s wife, Susan, also attended the ceremonies.

GrandSouth, which trades on the OTC market under the GRRB symbol, has nearly doubled its stock value in the past year. It traded at $13.45 earlier this month and was at $7.50 last year at the same time.

The bank at 501 W. Wade Hampton Blvd., is across the street from the former Allen Bennett Hospital, which is being demolished and to be marketed as a mixed-use site. “This is perfect for this section of Wade Hampton Blvd. and we believe will be a focus point for future development in this part of Greer,” said Reno Deaton, executive director of Greer Development Corporation. “This plays in the marketing scheme of Allen Bennett.”

“We are real pleased with the building and the staff of employees, all residents of Greer,” Lucas said. Julie Barnes is the general manager.

The bank will be strongly involved with commercial development and loans and with daily customer service.

Lucas has been working out of a temporary office until the past two weeks when the staffed moved into the $1.2 million, 5,000-square-foot office.

GrandSouth Bank was chartered and opened for business in 1998 and operates four offices located in Greenville, Fountain Inn, Anderson and Greer.
