Greer BMW plant produces 2.5 millionth vehicle

Greer’s BMW Manufacturing plant has reached another milestone in the history of the company’s only North American manufacturing facility – 2.5 million vehicles produced in the plant’s nearly 20-year history.

Vehicle number 2,500,000 was a Mineral White Metallic BMW X5 xDrive50i with Terra Dakota Leather and M Sport Package.  The X5 is destined for BMW of San Antonio in San Antonio, Tex.

This half-million production milestone was reached in 21 months, the quickest in the plant’s history.

The plant is in the midst of completing a $900 million expansion to add the all-new BMW X4 and prepare for annual capacity of 350,000 units by the end of 2014.

• July 2002:  500,000th BMW built

• February 2006:  1 million

• September 2009:  1.5 million

• January 2012:  2 million

• September 2013:  2.5 million
