Christofferson's 'incredible legacy' is a pathway to the future
MAY 29, 2012

Stan Christofferson and his daughter, Katie, shared a few moments between vists from guests at the Stand Up For Stan fundraiser on March 29. Katie delivered Stan his first grandson earlier this spring.

Stan Christofferson, owner of the Great Bay Oyster House, was an easy mark for people seeking help with a project that needed some infusion of money or contributions of goods. He was a good place to start because it would prove to be a positive beginning for a community drive.

“I would walk into Stan’s office and he would say, ‘you’re here again? How much do I owe you now chief?’ Anytime we needed something or wanted help Stan was there for us,” Greer Police Chief Dan Reynolds said. Reynolds laughed at the recurring visits that resulted in both teasing each other. Cops for Tots and other fundraisers were always the winners and Stan “provided valuable assistance to us.”

Belk is rethinking remodeling Greer store this year
MAR 22, 2012

Belk is targeting approximately 30 stores for remodeling and expansion in 2012. The Greer store was being discussed as part of the company's 2013 capital program. Since Kohl's, Walmart Neighborhood Market and the upgrade to other facilities and parking lots is ongoing, Belk may move up the Greer store's timetable for remodeling.

Belk department store at 873 W. Wade Hampton Blvd. is rethinking its decision to remodel the store this year instead of 2013. When the Charlotte-based company earlier committed to remodeling 30 stores in 2012 the Greer store was not one of them.

Greer’s Belk remodeling was projected in the 2013 corporate plans. However, major retail events in Greer may be changing that timetable. GreerToday.com first reported Kohl’s (Jan. 22) setting up as the centerpiece at Piedmont Plaza and Walmart putting South Carolina’s first Neighborhood Market (Jan. 18) in the Greer Plaza.

Greer's Kohl's represents company's new focus

The Kohl's department store in Greer will feature the retail chain's focus on its 60,000-square foot format that has proved to be more profitable since its launch 10 years ago.

Kohl's (NYSE: KSS) will up fit the former Kmart store at Piedmont Plaza at 1326 W. Wade Hampton Blvd. Kmart's square footage is 66,233-square-feet and fits squarely in Kohl's format. The Menomonee Falls, Wis.-based company launched the smaller stores in 2012 in smaller communities. The smaller stores returned better financial reports than the chain's 90,000-square-foot prototype, thus the national shift.
