Greer girls have a disconnect at Wren
• Greer wins playoff opener.

The No. 9 Greer Lady Jackets were ousted by No. 6 Wren at Piedmont Thursday in a Class AAA girls playoff game, 84-45.

Wren connected on 13 of 17 3-point goals and hit 75 percent of its free throws to overwhelm Greer, which made the high school playoffs for the first time in five years.

Greer, finishing the season at 19-6, had difficulty with its three-point shooting, making only 4 of 34 (12 percent). So off was Greer, it missed all 15 three-point tries in the first half. Greer could only make 15 of 74 shots resulting in 20 percent shooting.

Marshea Murray led Greer with 14 points and Megan Jones scored eight points.

Greer’s All-State pick Diamon Shiflet had foul trouble with two coming in the first quarter. A third in the third quarter sent Shiflet to the bench for most of the remainder of the game. Shiflet only managed five points.

Wren All-State pick Nakol Franks finished with a game-high 27 points. Alex Lavore added 16 points and Cassidy Bell added 10 points.

Wren’s domination virtually sewed up the game at halftime, 49-19. Greer could only manage five points in the second quarter and was held without a field goal for the first 10 minutes of the game.

Wren built a 70-32 cushion at the end of the third quarter.

It was the second time the teams met. Wren beat Greer in a tournament game in the beginning of the season.

Wren (21-4) will host defending state champions and No. 2 Lancaster (18-3) on Monday at 6:30 p.m. in the third round. Lancaster beat Lower Richland Thursday, 42-39.
