STAFF REPORTS
Published on Tuesday, September 4, 2012

The Greer Police Department is hosting a softball tournament this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, at Century B Park (Kids Planet).  Games begin at 9 a.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday.

Greater Greer law enforcement teams will compete with all the proceeds raised donated to a fund Deputy Roger Rice’s family established after he was killed in the line of duty in July 2011 while working for the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office. The Law Enforcement Hardship Fund is designed to help law enforcement families that are struggling financially.

Joining Greer PD in the tournament so far are Simpsonville and Fountain Inn police departments and the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office and Greenville Detention Center.

T-shirts and concessions will be sold to raise money and donations are welcome. Businesses and individuals wanting to donate in advance should contact Corporal Kara Blackwell at 864-848-2156.
