The Piedmont Women’s Center received a $1,000 donation from "Leaders In Action" of this year's Greer Leadership Class earlier in April.
Executive Director Caroline Robertson of Greer Relief and her staff were presented its donation on Tuesday.
Robertson said $286,988 was returned to 236 households in the Greer area through the just completed Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. The United Way and the IRS partner to provide free tax assistance for those with low to moderate income. The Greer Relief site was open 2 ½ months.
Since 2005, the VITA program has helped more than 6,630 area taxpayers generate more than $4.6 million in tax returns.
Every year, Greer Relief participates in VITA: Volunteer Income Tax Assistance. VITA is one way we are able to fight poverty and give back to our community at the same time. Since 2005, the program has helped more than 6,630 local taxpayers generate more than $4.6 million in tax returns. During tax season, volunteers sit down with people whose househould income is less than $50,000 and prepare their taxes for FREE.
Greer Relief assists working poor and fixed income neighbors by providing services to prevent starvation and homelessness in the Greater Greer area.
Piedmont Women’s Center received its donation on April 8. The non-profit provides reproductive health care such as free laboratory-quality pregnancy testing, free pregnancy consultations, and free limited OB ultrasounds
Previous non-profits receiving $1,000 donations from Leadership Greer this year have been Greer Community Ministries and the Middle Tyger Community Center.
Daily Bread Ministries-Greer Soup Kitchen will receive the final donation next week.
