The world’s largest retailer is also guaranteeing shoppers it will have three of the most popular items it sells. Customers must line up inside the store during the one-hour event to receive a voucher authenticating their appearance.
A consumer electronic sales will follow at 10 p.m. Thanksgiving and a storewide sale at 5 a.m. on Black Friday.
“The (Thanksgiving) sales should help customers,” said Dana Hill, Walmart of Greer store manager. “They can come in and stay in line to make their purchases, get home by midnight and get some sleep before coming back at 5 a.m. Or they can spend the whole night shopping.”
Those who are lined up inside the store between 10 – 11 p.m. on Thanksgiving will be able to purchase the following items:
• Apple iPad 2 with Wi-Fi for $399 plus a $74 Wal-Mart gift card;
• Emerson 32-inch LCD TV for $148, down from the original $228;
• LG Blu-ray Disc player for $38, about half off the original price.
Hill said his store would have a big quantity of the tablet computers anticipating a big sale on those items. That goes in line with Walmart’s strategy of buying deep on popular products this holiday season, the company said.
If customers inside the store on Thanksgiving, during the one-hour sale, find the selected items sold out, Walmart will offer a guarantee card for the product. It will be shipped to the store where it was purchased for the customer to pick up before Dec. 25.
