John Hicks, standout linebacker for Greer, has been named to the North team for the North-South All-Star football game in December.
Alex Waters (72) has been a big reason why Quez Nesbitt has been able to get past the line of scrimmage en route to his 2,000 yards rushing season.
Waters has anchored an offensive line that has helped running back Quez Nesbitt gain over 2,000 yards rushing this season.
“(Waters) is the best offensive lineman I have coached at Greer,” Head Coach Will Young said. “Since he was a young person he has made himself into a good football players.”
Hicks leads Greer in every defensive category with over 100 tackles, tackles for loss, sacks and fumbles recovered. Hicks has headed a defense that has limited opponents to fewer than 100 yards in the last two games.
“John Hicks always plays well,” Waters said.
“I like to fly around and do something physical,” Hicks said.
Greer plays Seneca Friday night at Dooley Field in the first round of the Class 3A state playoffs. Seneca beat Greer 46-45 in teams’ season-opener.
Brennen Griffin of Blue Ridge was named to the team as a wide receiver. Byrnes had two players named to the North team, defensive back Lakista Ashmore and linebacker Melvin Armstrong.
The North-South game is 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 8 at Myrtle Beach. Tickets are $15 at the gate.
The North leads the series 37-25-2.
