S. Nigel Platt has been hired as animal curator for Hollywild Animal Park.
“Mr. Platt brings a wealth of experience and passion for quality animal care to his leadership position at Hollywild,” said executive director Kim Atchley. “He is a perfect fit for the collective efforts of our board, staff, and volunteers as we move forward into a new era for Hollywild.”
Platt has served as executive director at Safe Haven and Educational Adventures in Easley the past eight years, a non-profit providing permanent refuge for rescued exotic wildlife.
He is a native of England and came to the U.S. as herpetologist for the Toledo Zoo in 1993. He was general curator of the Greenville Zoo for six years.
Platt established the teaching zoo program and animal collection at Reaseheath College and returned to the Upstate and co-founded Safe Haven with Kim Chiswell, an animal care specialist and educator. Platt will remain a consultant for Safe Haven.
“I am looking forward to helping families experience all that Hollywild has to offer as a unique Upstate resource for learning about animals and their significance in our world,” said Platt.
