Versatile Blue Ridge running back Vonta Jenkins showed why he has scholarship offers from eight different college programs.
Jenkins finished with 10 carries for 64 yards, three catches for 41 yards and 119 yards in kickoff returns, giving him 105 yards from scrimmage and 224 all-purpose yards in Thursday night's 49-28 loss to Emerald.
The four-year varsity player for the Tigers has received offers from Alcorn State, South Carolina State and Lenoir-Rhine among others at the NCAA FCS and Division II levels.
• After going three-and-out on their initial possession, the Vikings didn't punt again until 10 minutes were left in the game.
Emerald drives were only thwarted by the end of the first half and a fumbled handoff exchange recovered by Blue Ridge's Travis Lancaster.
Emerald's prolific ground game rolled up 470 rushing yards against Blue Ridge, a total that included minus-26 of team lost yardage when in victory formation as time wound down in the fourth quarter. Interestingly, the Vikings' victory formation has the quarterback in the shotgun, not under center.
The Vikings out-gained Blue Ridge 543-308 from scrimmage.
