The Northwood Junior baseball team is en route to Detroit to play in the Little League World Series beginning Sunday.
The team left Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport early this morning. They will arrive in Detroit late this afternoon, participate in opening ceremonies Saturday at 8 p.m. and play Midland, Mich., the Central Region Champion, in game three Sunday at 5 p.m.
The team was split at its connecting airport when three players and a coach were overbooked and had to travel a separate flight.
Games will be played at Taylor’s Heritage Park.
Northwood beat Virginia Beach, Va., for the Southeast Region championship. Northwood went unbeaten, 3-0, in the tournament.
Southwest, which received a first-round bye, will play the winner of Central-Southeast game, on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Five United States teams and six international teams will compete for the championship, scheduled Sunday at 1 p.m. That game will be televised on ESPN3.
