Betty Jo Thompson, 91, of Greer, SC passed away October 5, 2023.
Born September 22, 1932, in Cashville, SC to the late Thomas Wayman Perry and Annie Faye Neal.
Betty was an extraordinary woman, she had many careers, including being an early employee for the opening of the Greenville Spartanburg Airport, former owner of the Lyman Restaurant, she was a bookkeeper for Southeastern Truss, and she was a Master Barber at Hair Trends for over 30 years, giving advice to everyone on how to navigate this life.
She was appointed by former Governor David M. Beasley in 1996 and then James H. Hodges to the South Carolina Board of Barber Examiners. She was a founding member and Elder at Memorial Drive Baptist Church in Greer, SC for over 30 years.
Surviving are her four children, Judy Williams Reardon (Ed), Robin Parris Orr (Kelly), Perry Joe Williams (Erin), and Tanya Leigh Thompson (Andy Edwards); six grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
Ms. Thompson was predeceased by a brother, J.D. Perry; and husbands, Walter W. Williams and Charles H. Thompson.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at The Wood Mortuary Chapel conducted by Rev. Steve Watson and Mr. Kelly Orr.
Burial will follow in Bellview Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held 1-1:45 p.m. Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at The Wood Mortuary.
The family would like to express special gratitude for the caring staff at Brookdale Assisted Living and Traditions Hospice for taking exceptional care of our mother in her greatest time of need.
The families are at their respective homes.
