Thomas "Murray" Waynick Sr., 79, of Greer, S.C., went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 6, 2022.
Born in Nashville, Tenn., on May 27, 1942, he was the son of the late Thomas Goodloe and Ida Carroll Waynick.
He was a retired Lieutenant with the Greenville County Sherriff's Office and was instrumental in bringing the D.A.R.E. and Crime Stoppers programs to Greenville.
Murray was an avid woodworker and loved camping and fishing. He volunteered many hours with the Greenville Rescue Mission and was a faithful member of Fairview Baptist Church in Greer, where he served as a deacon and member of the Fairview Safety Team.
Murray is survived by his wife of 32 years, Debbie Vassey Waynick; two sons, Tommy Waynick (Alicia) and Andy Waynick (Sharon); two daughters, Shannon Sharp (Scott) and Lori Lawson (Jeffrey); 13 grandchildren, Danielle McGowans (Wesley), Lauren Wooten (Brandon), Amber Waynick, Drew Waynick, Alivia Waynick, James Paul Waynick, Bradley Sharp, Carmen Waynick, Kathryn Sharp, Parker Lawson, Paxton Lawson, Wilson Sharp, and Palmer Lawson; three great-grandchildren, Sophie, Addison, and Ella Jane McGowans; one sister, Lois Waynick Gibson of Mt. Juliet, Tenn., and several nephews and nieces.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Timothy Waynick.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 10, 2022, from 6 - 8 p.m. at The Wood Mortuary, 300 W. Poinsett Street, Greer, S.C.
A celebration of life will be on Friday, February 11, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Fairview Baptist Church, 1300 Locust Hill Rd., Greer, S.C., with Dr. Eddie Leopard and Reverend Ralph Hefner officiating.
Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Greenville, S.C.
Pallbearers will be the sons and grandsons.
