A Purple Heart recipient and United States Army veteran of the Korean War died today.
Milford Odell Howard, from Taylors and a native of Greenville County, was a member of Washington Baptist Church.
Historians often refer to the Korean War, June 1950 to July 1953, as “The Forgotten War”.
The Purple Heart is awarded to members of the U.S. armed forces of the who are wounded by an instrument of war in the hands of the enemy and posthumously to the next of kin in the name of those who are killed in action or die of wounds received in action. The Purple Heart is specifically a combat decoration.
