Riverside ends drought, crushes rival Eastside to open season

Riverside 31, Eastside 7

Phil Smith earned his first win as head coach at Riverside Friday night as Warriors Nation showed up en masse at Eastside. The Warriors were 0-11 in Smith’s first year of coaching.

Riverside also ended a two-year 19-game losing streak.

Ryan Cerino ran for two touchdowns and passed for a score to Robert Morrow. Dondre Thompson scored on a 4-yard run and Antoine Kahale kicked a field goal to lead the Warriors.

Riverside never trailed in the rivalry that saw two skirmishes, a second one with Riverside's Darius Smith ejected and ineligible to play against Greer next Friday.

Records: Riverside 1-0, Eastside 0-1.

Next game: vs. Greer at Riverside (Sept. 5, 7:30 p.m.)
