Lauren Saffy, a senior and 3-year captain of the band color guard, is the Greer High School Fall Sports Student-Athlete of the Week.
Saffy, a three-year captain of the color guard, has led her squad to two consecutive Best Color Guard finishes, at the Byrnes Tournament of Bands (Oct. 6) and Chesnee Eagle Classic (Oct. 13.).
“Lauren’s leadership is tremendous,” said Jeff Norman, Greer High School Band Director. “When she was a sophomore it was apparent she was a leader.”
Saffy is in the International Baccalaureate program. “She’s a stellar student and she’s also very gifted in the arts,” Norman said.
Norman said Saffy has an aura of confidence and leadership. “There was just something about her as a sophomore. She was way beyond others. Whatever Lauren decides to do, she will be successful.”
Greer finished its regular season competition against Chesnee on Saturday and competes in the Upper State tournament Saturday at Byrnes High School. The top 9 teams advance to the state championship Oct. 27.
Walmart is the presenting sponsor of the Student-Athlete Award. The Clock restaurant provides winners with a free meal voucher and GreerToday.com is the media sponsor.
