Jan Scalisi, Spartanburg City Council member and longtime volunteer for the Miss South Carolina pageant, died Thursday.
Scalisi, 61, battled an aggressive form of cancer that was diagnosed in August.
She became a member of City Council in January 2012 and was re-elected in 2015 for a second term.
Scalisi was a journalist, communication consultant and frequent volunteer in Spartanburg.
Scalisi handled media responsibilities for the Miss South Carolina pageant.
She earned undergraduate degrees from Converse College and the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point, and a master’s degree in education from Memphis State University.
