Scott Hamilton will be the featured speaker Tuesday nght at the Taylors Free Medican Clinic annual fundraiser at the TD Convention center. Hamilton is a former Olympic gold medalist figure skater, has ovecomer a bout with cancer and is now a motivational speaker.
Next week, the Tennessee resident with a long record for overcoming obstacles hopes to help the Taylors Free Medical Clinic make some financial wishes come true.
Hamilton, who overcame two serious childhood illnesses to become a four-time World Figure Skating Champion, will visit the TD Convention Center Tuesday, May 22 to serve as guest speaker at the TFMC’s annual spring gala.
Hamilton’s appearance will highlight a fundraiser which TFMC officials hope will help meet increasing demands at the 7-year-old clinic, which last year provided more than 4,500 free medical appointments to 3,100 patients. It also provided more than 24,000 prescriptions valued at $1.4 million.
Hamilton, 53, overcame numerous childhood maladies to earn a spot on the 1980 U.S. Olympic team at age 22 and won a gold medal at the 1984 Olympic Games at age 26. He now serves as a television commentator and motivational speaker.
