Reggie Shaw is the new head football coach at James F. Byrnes High School.
Spartanburg District Five Schools Board of Trustees unanimously approved the hiring Monday.
Shaw’s 22 years of coaching experience includes one season, 2006-2007, as the Rebels defensive backs and special teams, and assistant strength coach.
Shaw coached four years at A.C. Flora High School beginning in 2013. He led Flora to playoff appearances during all four seasons including a region championship and trip to the AAA Upper State semifinals in 2014. That same year, Shaw was awarded Region 4-AAA Coach of the Year.
Shaw led the football program at Ben Lippen School for five seasons, earning the distinction of the winningest coach in school history. He began his high school coaching career at Fairfield Central High School in Winnsboro in 1996, beginning as defensive line coach, and then moving on to defensive coordinator and assistant head coach from 2003-2006. He coach Fairfield Central to two state championships.
Shaw will be introduced to players, parents and the community Tuesday at the District Five Fine Arts Center at 4 p.m. An informal meet and greet reception will follow in the Byrnes High School cafeteria.
