The State Champion Northwood Little League team advances to the Southeast Region Minors Championship.
Northwood Little League has a team headed to the Tournament of State Champions to compete for the Southeast Region Minors Championship for the second consecutive season.
Northwood Blue defeated Wren 22-3 to win the South Carolina state championship on Friday in Summerville.
Northwood fell behind in the first round of championship play, losing to Wren 11-4 on Thursday night. They bounced back in Friday’s elimination game with 17 hits, grabbing an early lead in the first inning, and then scoring 10 runs in the fourth.
“There’s nothing more exciting than seeing a team come back to win that final game after losing the night before,” Northwood manager Mike Noble said. “The boys played as a team and improved week to week. They were excited. The coaches were excited. The parents were excited. It’s always a goal to win any tournament in which you play.”
Northwood went 5-1 in the State tournament that featured 11 district champions, defeating Chester, Tega Cay, Wren and Greenville Red in the semifinals. The win represents back-to-back State Championships for a Northwood Little League minors team.
Northwood leaves for Region play on Friday, facing Florida in its first SE Game on Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
