Students invited to enter communications contest

Published on Tuesday, January 24, 2012

Media Women of South Carolina (MWSC) is receiving entries for its 2011-2012 High School Communications Contest through March 1.  High School age students may enter in one of 17 categories designed to encourage young journalists, photographers, and writers across South Carolina. Work can be published in public or private school newspapers (print or online), in school news broadcasts, or in community news publications.

First place winners’ entries from the MWSC contest are sent on to the National Federation of Press Women (NFPW), which sponsors the only nationwide communications competition for high school students. The contest is endorsed by the National Association of Secondary School Principals. Dow Jones announces first-place winners and promotes the competition in its publication distributed to journalism advisers across the nation, giving students and their teachers/advisers local and nationwide recognition. In 2010, four S.C. students earned first place national awards for their work.

Entry information is available at http://scmediawomen.org/high-school-communications-contest/. Call Kim Atchley, MWSC High School Communications Contest Director, at 864-415-9881 or [email protected]
