The Smokehouse Mafia, in their first summer competing in Kansas City BBQ Society sanctioned cookoffs, won the Sooie't Relief BBQ overall championship.

CHIX, SWINE & BOVINE Bbq earned the Reserve Champion award as runnerup in the Sooie't Relief BBQ Festival.

Killer B's BBQ took third place honors in today's barbecue festival in downtown Greer.
The winning team, from Hickory, N.C., competed in this Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned competition for the first time. The SmokeHouse Mafia only began competing on the competitive circuit this summer. The cookers won their first competition in Greenwood in July.
Michael Eller, Andrew Rasmussen and Brian Thompson comprise the winning team.
The margin of victory was small, just over five points, considering the scoring is usually in the mid-100s and is rounded off to the thousandth point.
CHIX, SWINE, & BOVINE Bbq, of Jessup, Md., was the reserve champion and earned $1,000. The team was a last-minute entry into the competition. Barbara Driscoll, Chris Owen and Mike Richter are team members, and they are also certified KCBS judges. CS&B was fourth overall in the 2011 KCBS rankings.
The 2011 Sooie’t Relief BBQ grand champion, Killer B’s BBQ from Evans, Ga., was fourth overall this year.
Four categories – chicken, pork ribs, pork and beef brisket were judged. Cash and ribbons were awarded first-fifth place for each category.
