Aaron Tippin has long been an advocate for the United States military armed services. This past week the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce announced a "Walk of Honor" for all veterans and active duty personnel.
GreerToday.com, media sponsor for the Family Fest, will present a daily photo in honor of all military personnel, active and veterans. The Department of Defense is providing the photography from all over the world where the U.S. military has a presence. Today's photo was taken at McEntire Joint National Guard Base in South Carolina.
The Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce is inviting all veterans and active military personnel to participate in a “Walk of Honor” preceding Tippin taking the stage as the headline act at the Village Hospital Greer Family Fest on Saturday, May 5 in Greer City Park.
“I think anything that honors the military and promotes the “Walk of Honor” is the least we can do,” Allen Smith, President/CEO of the Greer Chamber, said. “We will be giving out a thousand flags and invite all military personnel and their families to participate in the walk. It’s is going to be a memorable night.”
The “Walk of Honor” will go through City Park, beginning at the fountains leading up to the main stage area where Tippin will perform. The walk is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. and Tippin will perform at 8 p.m.
The Blue Ridge High School National Guard will escort the veterans through the park and will end with a presentation of the colors.
“This festival is a great opportunity for us to honor those who have fought for our country,” said Smith. “It’s a great fit as Aaron Tippin is a tremendous advocate for the veterans. We are honored to be able to provide an avenue to recognize them.”
Tippin’s patriotic anthem, “Where the Star and Stripes and the Eagle Fly”, became his most successful crossover single. The recording was released after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Tippin has been the spokesperson for the Disabled American Veterans and Paralyzed Veterans of America. He was the first singer to go to Saudi Arabia to entertain the troops in 1990 during the Gulf War. Tippin went overseas to Afghanistan to entertain the troops in 2002 and has performed each year since. He began entertaining the troops overseas as a guest artist for the Bob Hope USO Tour.
