Traffic fatality shuts down southbound Hwy. 80
A person pushing a disabled 1994 Nissan Sentra was killed and a second person, believed to be steering the vehicle, was injured and transported to Spartanburg Regional Hospital late Friday night, according to Lt. Patrick Fortenberry of the Greer Police Department.

Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger said Corey Blake Rabb, 20, of Simpsonville, died at the scene at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Rabb, was pushing the broken-down car across a bridge on SC 80, when he was hit from behind by another car, Greer police reported. Southbound 80 was closed for three hours while traffic was being diverted to Hwy. 290 (East Poinsett Street Extension).

A 2013 Toyota Corolla reportedly struck the Sentra from behind.

Fortenberry reported GPD officers were called to Hwy. 80 and Hwy. 290 at 8:03 p.m., in reference to a traffic collision with injuries.

The Greer Police Department and the coroner’s office are still investigating the collision.
