Cast members of I’ve Got A Little Twist combine the musical works of Gilbert and Sullivan with modern-day Broadway composers to create insight and entertainment at Tryon Fine Arts Center. They are Daniel Greenwood, Sarah Caldwell Smith, David Wannen, David Auxier, Stephen Quint, and Angela Christine Smith.
“This will be the first performance of 2020 in our Signature Series,” Center Executive Director Marianne Carruth said. “This series is known for presenting the best that the fine art world has to offer with innovative approaches to traditional disciplines.
The show will also give audiences insight into how the work of Gilbert and Sullivan (1871-1896) has greatly influenced modern-day Broadway theatre. As a theatre company, NYGASP was founded in 1974 and is considered to be America’s preeminent professional Gilbert and Sullivan repertory ensemble, having presented more than 2,000 shows throughout North America and the United Kingdom.
Curruth cautions: Don’t let the notion that you’ll be hearing ‘opera’ scare you off. Gilbert and Sullivan’s operettas — short operas — are among the funnest in the world. Plus, this show includes songs from Brigadoon, The Music Man, and On the Town — all Broadway classics. And, it’s funny. Even if you’re not a Broadway or Gilbert and Sullivan fan, anyone can appreciate the creative comedy of I’ve Got A Little Twist.
