Officers with the Greer Police Department were called to the apartments to assist the Greer Fire Department after they found two deceased individuals inside. The fire department initially responded to a fire, but after entering the apartment to put out the fire, they found the two individuals. The fire was contained to one second floor unit.
The initial caller reported hearing a “loud boom” and then saw smoke coming from a dryer vent, police said. Both the fire and the deaths appear to be suspicious, according to police. SLED arson investigators and the Greenville County Coroner’s Office are assisting in the investigation.
Lt. Patrick Fortenberry said “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased individuals.”
