The Neighborhood Market will offer ammenities to shoppers like the Cafe. The deli will feature a Grab-and-Go section with rotisserie chicken, fresh-baked pizza and standard deli sides.
A celebration featuring store associates, Mayor Rick Danner and other local dignitaries will participate in a ceremony that includes a ribbon cutting at 7:30 a.m. The store, at 805 W. Wade Hampton Blvd., is officially scheduled to open at 8 a.m.
Store hours will be 6 a.m. –11 p.m. every day.
Product samplings, giveaways and entertainment are scheduled throughout the day.
Walmart included a statement from Danner in its run-up to the store’s opening. “Strong commercial growth in 2012 was another indicator that the City of Greer is continuing to lead the state’s economic recovery, and we’re very proud to be the home of South Carolina’s first Walmart Neighborhood Market,” said Danner.
“There was genuine excitement when the project was announced, not only because of the employment opportunities and tax benefits the store brings to the city, but also because our residents realize the quality and variety of goods and services available at the Walmart Neighborhood Market. With a local manager and local employees, this store will be a valued neighbor.”
Kirsten Tucker, from Greer, is the store’s manager and 11 of the stores employees have worked for Walmart for more than 10 years. About 80 part- and full-time jobs were created.
“After starting my Walmart career 14 years ago, I am proud to manage this new store, and I look forward to bringing this convenient shopping option to Greer,” Tucker said.
Walmart touts its fresh produce and full line of groceries, frozen foods, meat and dairy products and organic items. However, a Walmart executive said the Greer store will not offer local produce.
