Seventeen competitive cheer teams and more than 350 cheerleaders are expected to take part in the event hosted by the Blue Ridge High School Competitive Cheerleading squad.
“It is the beginning of our competitive season,” said Blue Ridge Cheerleading Coach Ashley Wardlaw. “This is the first sanctioned competition that’s held close by.
“It’s going to be an exciting day, to say the least.”
The size of the event has more than doubled since its debut six years ago with eight teams competing.
This year, teams will compete in Youth, Middle School, Junior Varsity and Varsity divisions with different age divisions falling within those categories.
Wardlaw said her squad, which finished sixth in Class AAA last year’s state competition, began practicing during the summer and has regular practices at Rockstar Cheer in Greer to hone it skills.
The Tiger Classic will begin with the first of two sessions at 11:30 a.m., featuring the youth squads. The afternoon division, featuring the other divisions, is set to begin at 1:30 p.m.
“There’s going to be lots of fun, lots of stunts, tumbling cheers and dancing and yelling,” Warlaw said.
Tickets are being sold at the door for $5 each.
