The Greer Commission of Public Works reported today it received three safety awards from the Municipal Association of South Carolina amounting to $3,500.
Ken Holliday, Human Resources Director, made the presentation at today's regularly scheduled CPW commissioners meeting.
A residential building uptick has Greer city and business leaders taking notice. Most importantly it has families purchasing newly-constructed homes as fast as they are marketed.
Dillard Creek Crossing has 50 new homes either completed or in construction phases while Village at Bent Creek has begun construction for 58 new homes. At the same time Mungo builders remain committed to 52 single-family patio homes to be built off Brushy Creek Road and S. Suber Road.
BMW presented its 2013 BMW X6 Activity Coupe today at the Geneva Motor Show. The vehicle has two engines featuring BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology and xDrive, the intelligent all-wheel-drive system.
Since its market launch three years ago, more than 150,000 SAVs have been sold globally with over 20,000 sold in the U.S.
The stage Aaron Tippin will perform on at the 2012 Village Hospital Greer Family Fest will be located at the picturesque circular drive entrance to City Hall.
"This location affords more people to see Aaron Tippin perform and we're anticipating the biggest crowd ever to attend the festival," Mark Owens, Greer Chamber of Commerce Events Coordinator, said.
Greer's BMW Manufacturing Co.-produced vehicles helped steer BMW Group to its best ever January sales. BMW reported sales last month of 96,183 vehicles, a 5.9 percent increase from the 90,858 sold the same time last year.
The BMW X5, X6 and X3 all showed increases. The X3 showed a 56 percent January increase with 9,348 vehicles sold (5,984 last year). The X5 has an 8.3 percent growth in sales with 8,872 units sold (8,194 last year) and X6 sales were up 5 percent to 3,372 (3,211 last year).
BMW Manufacturing of Greer has completed the installation and commissioning of solar panels (GreerToday.com Dec. 22) that are providing solar energy to power the 24,000 square foot Zentrum Museum, the plant’s heritage museum and visitors center. The plant also installed three new electric vehicle charging stations throughout the main facility.
“Adding a new, alternative energy platform to our energy portfolio is another step in our commitment to sustainable methods of generating power at our factory,” said Duncan Seaman, Department Manager, Market Operations USA & Canada. “It is the perfect complement to our existing landfill gas-to-energy and hydrogen fuel cell program and offsets the fossil fuel requirements otherwise needed to run our facility.”
Twenty-seven Upstate charities will benefit from programs sponsored by the BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation golf tournament.
Each charity will earn funds through volunteer recruitment and sales of tournament tickets and one-day pro-am teams.
The BMW Group in the U.S. (BMW and MINI combined) reported January sales of 19,739 vehicles, an increase of 5.8 percent from the 18,656 vehicles sold in the same month a year ago.
“The January results are the springboard for a year that will be full of new model launches beginning with the arrival of the sixth generation 3 Series in mid-February,” said BMW of North America President and CEO Ludwig Willisch. “Nationwide, inventories are low after the extraordinary sales in December and we’re replenishing our dealers as fast as we can to meet the strong demand for our vehicles.”
Sales of BMW brand vehicles increased 3.1 percent in January for a total of 16,405 compared to 15,905 vehicles sold in January 2011.
In January, best performing vehicles include the Greer-based BMW Manufacturing Co., X3 SAV – officially on sale in the U.S. for one year - up 56.9 percent to 1,687 units; the 6 Series, up 392.8 percent to 409 units and the 7 Series, up 56.1 percent to 977 units.
