Girls interested in competing in the Miss Greater Greer pageant are invited to a meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. at Pizza Inn of Greer.
The pageant is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 27 at Greer High School.
Wanda Fowler was honored as the Greater Greer Education Foundation Educator of the Year during the Foundation Gala at the Cannon Centre tonight. Fowler, is a teacher in School District 5.
Foundation Board Member Julie McMakin, who imade the presentation, told the crowd that Fowler has been an educator her entire adult life.
The charter classes of Riverside High School are planning a reunion on Friday, Nov. 23. Graduates of the 1974 – 1977 classes will meet at Crowne Plaza, 851 Congaree Road, in Greenville. The event will begin at 7 p.m.
The cost is $50 per person and includes hors d’ oeuvres, catered by Ruth’s Chris Steak House, entertainment, photographer and cash bar. Rooms are discounted at the hotel for guests spending the night.
The corporate and career division at Greenville Technical College will offer Ghost Hunting 101, a chance to learn from professional paranormal investigators with the Ghost PRO (Paranormal Research Organization) team.
The class, offered Tuesdays, October 2-23 from 7 to 9 p.m., will cover best practices for ghost hunting, investigating, reviewing evidence, and presenting evidence to the client. The cost is $49.
The Greater Greer Education Foundation's Anannual fundraising event will be Thursday, Sept. 20 at the Cannon Centre, 204 Cannon Street. The event will include a Live Auction and Silent Auction and The Swingin' Medallions.
The live auction includes a stay at a condo in Hawaii!
Congratulations to 6th-grader Rachel Myers who won the Big Event T-shirt contest. Rachel will receive $50 cash, a free t-shirt and lunch for 2 at the Big Event.

Spartanburg Community College’s (SCC) Computer Technology Department is hosting a free Internet 101 seminar for parents who want to learn more about Internet safety; managing children’s online and mobile activities; and free online resources.
"The Internet 101 seminar is a great way for parents and grandparents to learn more about how to use the Internet effectively, protect children from online dangers and find out about helpful online and mobile resources," said Lisa Lopez, SCC academic director of computer applications.
Riverside Middle School will hold open house Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Following the PTSA (Parents Teachers Students Association) meeting, parents will visit students’ classrooms and meet teachers.
Olympic silver medalist, Abby Johnston, visited Riverside Middle to sign autographs and take pictures with students. She also gave the students a glimpse of her silver medal. Abby won the silver medal at the recent London Olympics in the 3 meter synchronized diving with partner, Kelci Bryant. Abby is the sister of RMS Spanish Teacher, Adrienne Johnston.

The Greer High School Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) is sponsoring a financial scholarship for 2012-2013 Greer High School Seniors, who qualify based on the below criteria. The amount and numbers of scholarships awarded will be determined by the PTSA Board of Directors for the current school year, and is based upon funds available for scholarship, as approved by the Greer High PTSA Board. The goal of the Greer High PTSA Board is to provide financial support to the Greer High Senior(s) who demonstrate a commitment to the betterment of Greer High School, its’ PTSA and the Greer community.

Miss Ann Braylo’s and Mrs. Susan Fincher’s Washington Center classes have been participating in a variety of classroom projects to encourage teamwork and positive character traits.
Students have been taking turns and practicing getting along with others while participating in computer and small group activities. Both classes have enjoyed interacting with others in various environments such as the classroom, school, and community.
The City of Greenville has given two used fire trucks to Greenville Technical College’s Fire Service Technology program. The two pumpers will be used to train students on the safe, proper and effective use of equipment commonly used in fire fighting operations.
The Fire Service Technology program at the Brashier Campus of Greenville Tech has 24 students in the basic program and 40 students pursuing an associate degree.
