Family Friendly Fun will take place Saturday in the City Park at the annual Halloween Hoopla provided by Freedom Fellowship Church. The event begins at 4 p.m.
Freedom Fellowship Church and the City of Greer will partner again this year to provide Halloween fun, treats, and entertainment for little ghouls and goblins on Saturday.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show returns for its third engagement in four years at the Greer City Park complex – only this year it's moving inside. The Cannon Centre will host the show tonight with pre-show entertainment at 9 p.m. and the film at 11.
Adults age 18 and over, the movie is rated R, will be admitted for one or more cans of non-perishable food to help feed the hungry in the Greer area.
On Sunday, October 30, 1938, Orson Welles and his Mercury Theatre took to the airwaves and presented “The War of the Worlds”, a radio show so realistic that it sent the nation into a frenzied panic.
Blue Ridge High School’s Theatre at the Ridge will be stage the same script for its fall play, “War of the Worlds”. The production is by the Theatre of the Ridge.
"Charlotte’s Web", a Greer Children’s Theatre presentation, begins its two weekend run tonight at the J. Harley Bonds Career Center.
Admission is $15 adults, $12 students/seniors and $7 for children under 5. Purchase tickets here.
Ghost tours will be held downtown Oct. 23 and 30 at 5 and 6:30 p.m. in downtown Greer.
Joada Hiatt, former director at the Greer Heritage Museum, will conduct the tours. Meet at the Depot at Trade Street. The cost is $5 per person.
Greer is a megalopolis compared to its namesake in Arizona, just outside Phoenix.
Greer, Arizona can claim a higher elevation (8,500 feet to Greer’s 1,016 feet). And with that comes an average eight feet of snow each year.
Jeff Norman, Greer High School Marching Band Director, said the band and color guard are ready and confident heading into Saturday’s 3A Upper State championships at Byrnes High School.
“There’s no hype this year. We’re just going out there and take care of business,” Norman said. “Going into the Upper State we feel confident.”

Lauren Saffy, a senior with the Greer High School color guard, is the Student-Athlete of the Week.
Saffy, a three-year captain of the color guard, has led her squad to two consecutive Best Color Guard finishes, at the Byrnes Tournament of Bands (Oct. 6) and Chesnee Eagle Classic (Oct. 13.).
Greer is hosting a culinary event never held before in downtown. It’s Foodie Events night, 5-8 p.m., as part of Tuesdays on Trade weekly promotion. More appropriately it’s Teacher Appreciation Night.
Visitors and teachers will be treated to a variety of skills of chefs from downtown Greer with the big finale a culinary competition – formatted like the food network’s “Chopped”.
The Miss Blue Ridge Foothills Pageant will be held Nov. 10 at Blue Ridge Middle School.
The categories for the Pageant are: interview, fitness; talent and evening gown. The ages are 13-17 for teens (must be a junior in high school or less); the Miss ages are 17-24. They must be a senior in high school and cannot turn 24 before December 31.
The Friends of Lake Robinson will hold a free day of celebration on Sunday, Oct. 21 at Verne Smith Park from 1-6 p.m.
The event raises the visibility and highlights the character of the Lake Robinson community.
Art and Wine on Trade opened its doors Saturday during Oktoberfest to give visitors a sneak peak at the shop that will have its grand opening Oct. 20.

The entertainment schedule for Saturday’s Oktoberfest in downtown Greer features a variety of German music from bands, singers, dancers, and a strolling accordion musician.
And there is a special venue set up for Clemson and South Carolina football fans to watch their teams’ games. Clemson plays Georgia Tech at 3:30 p.m. and South Carolina plays Georgia at 7.
Hunter Elizabeth Singleton, 12, was named Young Miss Greer and Overall Queen at the Little Miss Greenville/Greer Pageant. She will represent Greer in the 2013 Young Miss South Carolina Pageant in Hartsville next June.
Singleton is a 7th grade student at Florence Chapel Middle School and is the daughter of Chad and Angela Singleton.
The Greenville Tech Foundation has released a commemorative book, “Growing Greenville for 50 Years: A Celebration of Greenville Technical College 1962-2012.”
The book, celebrating Greenville Tech’s 50th anniversary, has been in the works for 18 months compiling decades of information, photos and stories. The book serves as a retrospective of the past 50 years – since 1962.
Charlotte’s Web will be performed by the Greer Children’s Theatre Oct. 19-21 and 26-28 at the J. Harley Bonds Career Center.
Friday and Saturday, Oct. 19-20 and 26-27 dates are 7 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 21 and 28, performances are 2 p.m.
