The most dramatic and poignant part of Saturday’s Freedom Blast will be the annual Veterans Walk and salute to the men and women of the U.S. Armed Services.
Freedom Blast is scheduled 6 – 10:15 p.m. with Greer Idol and Swingin’ Medallions providing the entertainment, a pie eating contest, family-friendly activities, food vendors, and a fireworks display will end the festivities following the salute to the Armed Forces.
Bill Drake, longtime Upstate celebrity, has recorded announcements that will play daily at the Hollywild Animal Park, announcing the Safari Bus rides, Creature Feature shows and pony rides.

Auditions will be held July 27 and 29 for the Greer Children’s Theatre production of The Little Mermaid Jr.
Children ages 5 to seniors in high school will be held at the Greer Recreation Center at 226 Oakland Avenue. Auditions are Saturday, July 27 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. and Monday, July 29 from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Freedom Fellowship Kids Ministry is hosting “Turn It Up”, a summer spectacular of fun, games and worship, at Greer City Park July 14- 18 from 6:15-8:15 p.m. for children ages 4 years to 5th grade.
Featured each night will be games, crafts, skits, storytelling, and music for children to sing and dance to.

Dylan Arms released his second CD, "Take Me Higher", at a pre-release party Tuesday night at The Davenport.
Arms greeted approximately 300 friends and visitors with an autograph signing and entertained with songs from his new CD.
A $10,000 gift from the City to the Greer Cultural Arts Council was re-gifted back to the community this evening.
A 3D sculpture, titled “Reaching for the Stars” is anchored at the entrance of the Cannon Centre on Cannon Street. The design incorporates elements of the arts council’s logo and its motto.
Camp Ark (Arts Reaching Kids) has scheduled its theater education program for beginners and advanced individuals. Beginners, ages 5-16, is July 8-12 and advanced, ages 8 and up, is July 22-Aug. 2.
The advanced campers will perform “The Emperor’s New Threads”, written by local playwright Nancy Rechtman, at the Cannon Center, August 2-3 and 9-10. There will be six performances.
Tall Tale Tuesdays continues this week with Mayor Rick Danner talking about “Doing The Right Thing” at 7 p.m. at the Cannon Centre.
The Greer Cultural Arts is producing the 30-minute storytelling session and will feature a 10-minute craft session each week.
The Southern Dance Connection will host a fundraiser featuring its dancers Thursday at the Greer Opry House at 107 Cannon Street.
Dinner will be Kickin’ Pig BBQ, with vendors contributing to a prize package. A baked sale will be held.
