Roads will be closed in downtown Greer Friday and Saturday during the 30th annual Greer Family Fest.
The closings will be Friday 6 a.m. to Sunday 2 a.m.
The Foothills Philharmonic ends its 13th season Saturday with its Pops concert at 7:30 p.m. at the J. Harley Bonds Career Center. The concert is free.
The Story Tellers, theme for the 2013-2014, season, featured international masterpieces. The season began by exploring classical masterworks and concludes by presenting popular favorites.
Princess Morgan Grace Privette, 13, and King Eric Rhom, 17, were among the stars entertaining children attending the "Sleeping Beauty Kids" tea party at the Cannon Centre last Saturday.
Privette has been in children's theater for six months and Rhom is participating in his second play.

City Council approved its support for Parks and Recreation to pursue a matching grant that could result in a new multi-purpose facility at Century Park.
Council approved 7-0 its support Tuesday night for a letter of application. Steve Owens, Director of Communications at the City of Greer, said it gives Greer the opportunity to compete for a grant through the Land and Water Conversation Fund (LWCF). “The application process is a highly competitive process,” Owens said.

Bass Pro Shops will anchor and be the owner-operator of a 75-acre mixed use development announced by David Britt, Spartanburg County Council Wednesday at the Chapman Cultural Centre in downtown Spartanburg.
The 120,000-square-foot Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World store will be the anchor tenant at the Hwy. 101 and 85 development that is scheduled to open in 2016. That means all subsequent developments including retail stores, hotels, restaurant, bowling alley and maybe a movie theatre will be cultivated by Bass Pro Shops.
Spartanburg County economic leaders are expected to announce that Bass Pro Shops will build its long-delayed store in Greer at the intersection of Hwy. 101 and I-85 (exit 60).

Edwin Hutchison is one of the coolest state champions around. Hutchison, by winning several competitions including the South Carolina Ice Sculpture championship, qualified for the world championships held in Fairbanks, Alaska where his team finished ninth.
The two person team competition consisted of Edwin, Ice Age Ice Sculptures of Greenville owner and Brian Conners from their Charleston location. They spent 16 days in sub zero temperatures in Fairbanks.

A unique Easter celebration comes to Greer First Baptist Church featuring local renowned gospel bluegrass band New River Saturday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m.

Using the popular music and music style of New River along with dramatic “eye-witness” accounts of those who were there at the death and resurrection of Christ. Leland Burch will have a book signing at Dobson Gifts and General Hardware Wednesday, 6-8 p.m.
The book , "Greer, S.C. - The Center of the Universe" is a compilation of some of Burch's columns written during his time as editor at the Greer Citizen during its heyday.
