The Marshall Tucker Band’s scheduled performance at the Village Hospital Greer Family Fest was cancelled tonight because of steady rain that made the City Park venue soggy and the sound equipment susceptible to water damage.
Doug Gray, front man for the MTB band, and Rudy Painter, Family Fest chairman, tentatively agreed for the MTB to perform at the 2014 Family Fest, scheduled May 2-3.
Nakeem Hoke, a defensive lineman for Greer High School, was meticulously helping a child string a necklace at Creation Station this morning during the Greer Family Fest.
The child was too young to understand Hoke, wearing his No. 31 jersey, was the pride and joy of the community during football season. The little girl, hardly tall enough to see over the table, was interested in making a necklace like Hoke and Nick Roberson, placekicker for Greer, were wearing from the trinkets and string provided.
Doug Gray will talk as long as one wants to listen. The lead singer and original Marshall Tucker Band front man brings the renown Southern rock band to Greer at 8 o’clock tonight as the main act for the Greer Family Fest.
Gray, reluctantly fell into the lead role when Tommy Caldwell died from injuries suffered in a Jeep crash in April 1980. Over 30 years and 5,000 shows later, Gray still enjoys talking to the audience, introducing songs and interacting with fans before and after performances.
Poinsett, Trade and Randall streets surrounding the Greer central business district are closed until 2 a.m. Sunday due to the annual Village Hospital Greer Family Fest taking place downtown today and Saturday.
There is ample parking and only a short walk – stroll – to all festival entertainment, food and activities.
