Forty-one AED (Automatic External Defibrillators) Units and public emergency Bleed Control Kits are being donated to the Greer community in strategic locations in high traffic areas and public city sites by the Leadership Greer 38 project.
The “In A Heartbeat” project is to make Greer a leader in preparedness in cardiac trauma, which is the leading cause of death in the United States.
“Our original goal was to place 20 AEDs and Bleed Control Kits to allow a one to three minute response time in the event of a cardiac emergency,” said class event chair, Hannah Mahaffey. “Due to the generosity of the community, the scope of our project doubled allowing us to expand our reach even further than we planned.”
The Greer Fire Department has helped to identify strategic locations and will offer CPR/AED training and bleed control training to recipients of the units. The training will be completed and the units placed over the next few weeks.
Project sponsors included Greer Memorial Hospital, The John I Smith Foundation, Del-Tech Packaging, Inc. CBL, Harper Corp, SynTerra, United Community Bank, Memorial Methodist Church, Michelin, McLesky Todd, Greer Lions Club, Professional Pharmacy of Greer, D&D Motors, Eastside Family YMCA, Service Transport, Family Dental Health, Martin J.
