Senior running back Mikal Robinson rushed for 169 yards and four touchdowns, and sophomore quarterback Ty Montgomery threw for five more scores and notched the first 300-yard passing performance of his career.
"The kids played well and they played very hard tonight," said Blue Ridge Head Coach Wade Cooper.
The Tigers (4-0) led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter, but that was only a precursor to a scoring flurry by both teams.
Blue Ridge scored twice more to extend its lead to 21-0 with eight minutes, 40 seconds left in the first half. ?The two teams would then combine for six touchdowns over the final 4:20 of the first half and the first minute of the third quarter.
"I didn't know what was going on out there -- it was chaos," said Blue Ridge sophomore defensive lineman Alex Surfus. ?The Eagles scored twice late in the second quarter, pulling to within 35-14 with 1:28 left in the half. ?But Blue Ridge's quick-strike offense was put in position by Tay Jenkins' 57-yard kickoff return for the first of two touchdown receptions by senior wide receiver Brennen Griffin.
Griffin, who caught eight passes for 164 yards, scored from 60 and 35 yards out before the end of the half to help put the Tigers ahead 42-14 by the break.
Sophomore Brian Garrett began the second half with a 75-yard kickoff return for a Blue Ridge score. ?Eastside (1-3) answered with an eight-play, 92-yard drive capped by Jaylon Boykin's 3-yard touchdown run to cut the lead to 48-20. ?But the Tigers responded with five unanswered touchdowns to end the game, including a 45-yard interception return for a score by Cory Dogan.
Eastside starting quarterback Jonathan Adkins completed 14 of 28 passes for 189 yards and receiver Ty Thomason had four catches for 100 yards for the Eagles.
Eastside's third straight loss left head coach Jeff Thomason, who is in his second year at Eastside, looking for rededication to his program. ?"I told them when I first got here that with where this thing was at, that things were going to get worse before they got better," Thomason said. "Our guys have to buy in. They have to sell out. This is what it's all about . . .. They've got to learn to sell out. That goes for our coaches on down.
“We've got to address some issues in every facet of this program, and we'll continue to do that as we go forward. We didn't quit. We just did things poorly."
