BMW is scheduled to announce that the X7, a full-sized SAV, will be built in Greer. A 675,000 square-foot body shop will be part of the company's expansion that is expected to produce 400,000 vehicles a year.
A new BMW model, X7, confirmed by Sen. Lindsey Graham, and additional significant expansion is scheduled to be announced Friday at 1 p.m. by BMW Group at the Greer manufacturing plant.
Graham confirmed the planned announcement. “A lot of good things are happening in Spartanburg County . . . and now the X7 will be built here,” Graham said. “This is really becoming a center for manufacturing.”
Reportedly, the announcement will address:
• X7, a new BMW SAV to compete against the Cadillac Escalade and GL class of Mercedes.
• A new 675,000 square-foot body shop.
• Future energy center adjacent to the new building.
• A new road to provide direct access from I-85 off Brockman McClimon Road.
• 4,200 square foot analysis center.
• Relocation of facility’s construction contractor yard to an area at Brockman McClimon Road and Highway 101.
