The Greenville County Council is set to raise commercial and residential property taxes up to 4 mils tonight. A bill was recently passed in Columbia that gave Greenville County the authority to take over all operations, assets and liabilities of the Recreation District if the Recreation District Commissioners voted to dissolve themselves.
Last week, the Recreation District Commissioners voted to dissolve themselves.
Tonight, Greenville County Council will vote to completely take over the Recreation District. Once the Recreation District is absorbed by Greenville County, Council will look to raise residential and commercial property taxes up to 4 mils.
Allen Smith, Greater Greer Chamber President/CEO said, “In these delicate economic times, government should look to assist businesses not assess them. I encourage County Council members to carefully consider the implications of raising taxes on the business community before acting tonight.”
A letter detailing the Chamber’s position was emailed to County Council and can be read by clicking here.
