Leanne Ramirez, School Social Worker, Jessica Preisig, Reading Intervention teacher, and Tracy LeGrand, Reading Intervention teacher, are among the teachers who are directing the program.
The diverse group of students, mostly fifth graders, with some fourth- and third-graders, meet in a newsroom environment offering their ideas to write and have their stories published on GreerToday under the Chandler Creek Elementary designated pull down under the Education category.
The mission for the students is to report on programs and their peer’s good news and publish a variety of news and features with accompanying art.
“It’s teaching people (students/teachers) what we do,” Ramirez said.
The students simulate a newsroom discussing stories and ways to report them with interview questions.
The white board of ideas during the staff’s first meeting included the stories reported today.
