Council approves board members, rule on ordinances

City Council had a heavy load of appointments to board and commissions to fill Tuesday night during its regularly scheduled meeting. All appointments were approved unanimously, 7-0.

Positions approved were:

• Board of Zoning Appeals.

Thomas McAbee reappointed from District 3. Motion by Kimberly Bookert seconded by Wayne Griffin.

• Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals.

David Greer reappointed. Motion by Wryley Bettis seconded by Judy Albert.

Ralph Johnson reappointed. Motion by Wayne Griffin seconded by Kimberly Bookert.

• Election Commission.

Paul Lamb reappointed. Motion by Wryley Bettis seconded by Kimberly Bookert.

• Recreation Association Board of Trustees.

Amanda Somers reappointed from District 1. Motion by Jay Arrowood seconded by Wayne Griffin.

Shelley Brown reappointed from District 5. Motion by Wryley Bettis seconded by Kimberly Bookert.

• Greer Development Corporation Board of Directors.

Wryley Bettis reappointed. Motion by Jay Arrowood, seconded by Kimberly Bookert.

Ordinances approved or tabled unanimously, 7-0, on second and final reading were:

• Amended zoning classification of R-12 made by Wryley Bettis and seconded by Wayne Griffin. Xiaoyong Michael Wong was the applicant for 4.50 acres at 124 Alexander Road.

• Amended zoning classification of R-12 made by Jay Arrowood and seconded by Wryley Bettis. Evelyn Trotter was the applicant for 6.26 acres at Alexander Road.

• Tabled ordinance to provide for the annexation of property, 27.6 acres, owned by Douglas Copeland and Carolyn Crandell at 1680 Gibbs Shoals Road to establish zoning classification of R-12. Wryley Bettis made the motion to table and seconded by Lee Dumas.

• Tabled ordinance to provide for the annexation of property, 21.3 acres, owned by Charles Edwin Smith, Jr., at Highway 101 South to establish a zoning classification. Wayne Griffin made the motion and seconded by Jay Arrowood.

• Tabled ordinance to provide a zoning classification of R-12, single family homes on approximately 20.4 and 30.4 acres on Highway 101 North. Motion by Wryley Bettis and seconded by Lee Dumas.
