Greer scored its most points this season and crushed rival Blue Ridge, 63-6, Friday night at Dooley Field.
The Yellow Jackets finished unbeaten, 5-0, in Region II-AAAA and 9-1 overall. Greer won nine consecutive games after an opening-season loss to 5A Byrnes.
Dre Williams scored four touchdowns. He fattened his statistics with 207 yards rushing and scored three touchdowns on 3-, 38- and 62-yard runs. Williams returned a kickoff 89 yards in the third quarter.
Williams averaged 17.2 yards per carry and Greer 14.7 yards with a total of 339 yards on 23 carries. The Yellow Jackets amassed 437 yards of total offense versus Blue Ridge’s 100.
Matthew Huff (31 yards), Zech Evans (4 yards), and Kyle Schneider (1 yard) added TD runs. Huff tossed a 9-yard TD pass to Miller Dearmond and Darius Griffin connected with Isaish Foster for Greer’s ninth touchdown. Edwin Sales made all nine of his points after touchdowns kicks.
Greer will have a week off before the state playoffs begin in two weeks. Hurricane Florence forced a good chunk of the state schools to postpone games and the regular season was extended one week.
