Greer is giving its support to a group of entities applying for $12 million in TIGER discretionary grant funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation for a full service regional transportation network.
City Council unanimously (7-0) approved City Administrator Ed Driggers to enter into a memorandum of understanding with the Greenville Transit Authority (Greenlink) for the purpose of installing a bus/transit station within the city’s central business district and possibly at Wade Hampton Blvd and Buncombe Road.
There is $500 million available for TIGER (Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery) projects in the U.S.
The idea is to transform the existing Greenlink transit service to a network that reaches the farthest points of the county to include the city of Greer served by 10 zero emission electric buses and two EV charging stations.
Two corridor express routes –the Gold Line and the Blue Line – will have 24 multimodal transit stations equipped with electronic pay equipment and bike-share systems.
The University Center Midtown will serve as the transfer station for each line.
