The 2018 Grand Marshal for the Greer Christmas Parade is Kyndra Kemp, the chairperson for the annual parade. Kemp and her daughter, Kyra, will lead the parade on Sunday, Dec., 9 at 2:30 p.m.
The “Classic Christmas Stories,” will feature almost 100 units including businesses, clubs, organizations, churches, schools, dignitaries, and two marching bands.
Kemp is from the Upstate, and attended Blue Ridge High School. She marched in the Greer Christmas Parade in the Blue Ridge High School Tiger Band 1984-85.
Kemp began volunteering for the parade in 2003 as a Jaycee and became the parade chair in 2009.
“We felt this was an important year for us to recognize Kyndra,” said Greer Relief Executive Director, Caroline Robertson. “Five years ago she handed the parade over to us as an official fundraiser of Greer Relief. Prior to that year we were the beneficiary of the parade, but the Jaycees organized and managed the event. Now, five years later we are happy with the cheer and joy we are able to help bring to the community and for the funds we are able to raise to help our neighbors in need.”
• The GrandSouth Elf Fun Run: Runners, joggers and families may “Run the Parade” route 30 minutes before the start. Groups, businesses, clubs and schools may participate as a team and dress the part. The 1.1 mile-run is not a timed event.
