All the remaining tenants have vacated the Piedmont Marketplace. The shopping center will under a facade and interior upfit.
A city official confirmed the exchange of property to Kohl’s and Marty Navarro, the Greenville developer of the Piedmont Marketplace. Navarro also confirmed reports of the department store’s opening in Greer for next year.
A firm construction date has not been set. Kohl’s typically opens stores, creating about 125 jobs, in the spring and fall. Job postings will be announced after construction begins. Kohl’s has 15 stores in the state.
The Wade Hampton corridor will be busy in 2014 with the Belk store at Greer Plaza getting a full renovation beginning in January that will take 10 months to complete.
Cook-Out, a fast food restaurant chain, is coming to Greer at 1353 Wade Hampton Blvd. The 3,000-square-foot restaurant will have a double drive-thru and limited indoor and/or outdoor seating.
An IHOP (International House of Pancakes) will be the anchor tenant of a four tenant complex in a strip mall at the corner of Wade Hampton Boulevard and Suber Road. Construction and launch dates have not been released.
Kohl’s originally was scheduled to open in Greer this year. However, Greenwood and Easley opened stores last September and they essentially moved ahead of Greer while the Piedmont Marketplace was undergoing a renovated parking lot last summer that included new lighting, landscaped islands and fresh asphalt.
Other tenants that will join Kohl’s in the Piedmont Marketplace at 1326 West Wade Hampton Boulevard, will be announced later. Tractor Supply renovated its façade and moved its outdoor goods to the side of the store to allow for additional parking.
The Greer Kohl’s will feature the retail company’s focus on smaller stores. The Kmart site has 66,233-square-foot and fits squarely in Kohl’s 60,000-square-foot models.
Kohl’s previously did some demolition work in late 2011.
Kohl’s opened nine new stores last month: Decatur, Ala., Danville, Ill., Ames, Iowa, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Minot, N.D., Sherwood, Ore., Hermitage, Pa., Spring Township, Pa. and Denton, Texas.
