Miss Socastee High School Teen, Ashley Jones, 16, from Myrtle Beach, won the Evening Gown/Onstage Question preliminary.
Davia Bunch, a former accomplished International Ballet Academy dancer, won Thursday’s Talent preliminary in the Miss South Carolina competition at Township Auditorium in Columbia. IBA is located in Greer.
Bunch, 20, from Spartanburg, performed a ballet en pointe to “Entrance” to Act Number Four, a selection from “Carmen”.
Miss Columbia, Suzi Roberts, 23, became a double winner when she won swimsuit. Roberts, from Pawley’s Island, won the talent preliminary Tuesday performing a lyrical dance to “Greatest Love of All”.
Miss Clarendon Teen, Julia Herrin, 15, from Bluffton, won the Talent preliminary in the Miss South Carolina Teen competition. She performed a piano selection, “The Battle”. Herrin is also the Evening Gown winner from Tuesday’s competition.
Miss Socastee High School Teen, Ashley Jones, 16, from Myrtle Beach, won the Evening Gown/Onstage Question preliminary in the Teen competition. She is also the Talent winner from Tuesday’s Teen competition.
The final competition for the Teens is at 7 p.m. on Friday, when the new Miss South Carolina Teen will be crowned.
The final competition for the Miss contestants starts at 8 p.m. on Saturday. The competition will be televised on Sinclair stations in the state. (Check local listings).
Bunch has been dancing since the age of 3 and performed for five years as an International Ballet company member. She has danced at Holiday at Peace with the Greenville Symphony Orchestra.
Bunch has attended summer intensives at Bolshoi Ballet Academy (NYC), The Joffrey School of Ballet in New York, and at International Ballet Academy.
She has traveled to Moscow to study Russian language and culture, as well as ballet. Bunch was accepted into the year-round program of the Bolshoi Ballet Academy in Moscow.
She is the daughter of Darin Bunch of Spartanburg and the late Deborah Bunch.
Bunch, in the dance program at the University of South Carolina, plans to pursue a career in dance.
Miss South Carolina 2017 will compete for the title of Miss America in Atlantic City, N.J., in September. Miss South Carolina Teen 2017 will compete for the title of America’s Outstanding Teen in Orlando, Fla., in July.
