NGU's Briggs named founding dean of new College of Wellness and Sport Professions

Dr. Jeff Briggs, acting dean of NGU's College of Business and Sport Professions and chair of the Department of Sport Management, has been named the founding dean of the new College of Wellness and Sport Professions effective Jan. 1, 2019.

The new College of Wellness and Sport Professions will include three undergraduate degree programs: sport management with concentrations in business, coaching, and ministry; physical education which includes the service program and the pending K-12 certification program; and outdoor leadership.

"North Greenville University’s academic programs include a strong emphasis on sport professions and outdoor leadership and we expect to move quickly to add new academic tracks in wellness and sport, including new graduate programs," said NGU President Dr. Gene C. Fant Jr. "Dean Briggs is incredibly entrepreneurial and is uniquely poised to lead these marquis programs."

Briggs serves as NGU's faculty athletic representative, co-chairs the annual Marion Moorhead Homecoming Golf Classic, as well as co-chairs the Faith at Work Business Symposium each spring. He earned his doctorate in sport management from Florida State University in 1999. I

"Jeff Briggs will make an outstanding dean for the College of Wellness and Sport Professions. He has a proven track record as a faculty leader and is widely respected throughout the Upstate," said NGU Provost Dr. Nathan A. Finn.
