Greer City Hall and the Municipal Complex were part of the original Greer Community Master Plan. The public is invited to participate in the next step of the future Greer Community Master Plan Oct. 21 at the Cannon Centre.
Two sessions are being planned: noon – 2 p.m. and 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Presentations are scheduled for 12:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Planners from Kimley-Horn and Associates of Charlotte will set up a design studio in the Cannon Centre exploring concepts for important locations in Greer and leading discussion on the preferred growth strategy and options for strategic corridors in the community. Visitors will be asked during each session to view the exhibits and provide feedback to further the master planning process.
Work began on the Greer Community Master Plan in January and has included feedback through an online community survey, committee meetings and a community workshop in June. The design workshop and a second community workshop in November are the final opportunities for planners to collect public feedback about their work to date.
A public rollout of the completed plan is scheduled for next April.
“The community’s participation has been tremendous so far,” assistant city administrator Mike Sell said. “The various workshops and surveys have provided a wealth of information and opinions on not only how our past has influenced our present but what should be done to shape our future.”
Sell added that Kimley-Horn and Associates has developed a community assessment that is available at www.plangreer.com. The assessment provides guiding initiatives that will be used in determining the preferred growth strategy for the community.
The Partnership for Tomorrow, a community initiative for the future of Greer, commissioned the Greer Community Master Plan as the next step toward fulfilling its mission of providing the City of Greer and surrounding areas with the resources necessary to address a variety of issues that will benefit the community and make Greer a better place to live, work and invest.
