Rates for art studios in the City Auditorium, 100 Davis Avenue, have been approved by Greer City Council on Tuesday.
The rates are based on a six-month lease, square footage, amenities and the number of windows in each studio. Council approved these rates:
• Studio 1, $100
• Studio 2, $100
• Studio 3, $90
• Studio 4, $75
A one-month security deposit is required, occupants will be asked to carry renter’s insurance.
“We would like to rent long-term,” said Ann Cunningham, Supervisor for Parks and Recreation said. “We will add a $25 fee if rented month-to-month.”
Mayor Rick Danner said he sees the studios a start of an arts movement in Greer. “The bigger opportunity for this is what it leads to,” Danner said.
“It puts cultural arts in play. Maybe ten years from now the community will need a stand alone arts center,” Danner said. “We’re not at that level yet, but it’s exciting to think we may get there.”
The different medium of artists required a nudity clause included in the lease agreement. It reads: Lessee shall not allow models to appear in a state of nudity or knowingly allow another to appear in a state of nudity in an area which can be viewed from the public right-of-way. It is the Lessee’s responsibility to provide window treatments in their studio if nudity is displayed.
