The X5, manufactured in Greer, was presented Tuesday at the International Auto Show in Frankurt. The X5 will be sold this fall in Europe and in early 2014 in the U.S.
Overall, worldwide sales year-to-date also reached an all-time high with more than 1.2 million vehicles sold, an increase of 7.7 percent over the same period in 2012 (1.1 million).
The X3, manufactured in Greer, ignited the growth spurt with reported August sales up 7.3 percent to 10,532 vehicles (9,816 previous year). In the reporting month, worldwide sales of BMW vehicles soared 15.6 percent to 118,743 units. A total of 1,051,595 BMW brand vehicles have been delivered to customers worldwide since the start of the year – an increase of 9.2 percent.
“The BMW Group achieved an all-time high in sales for the month of August. For the very first time, we sold over one million BMW brand vehicles in the first eight months of the year. The company is well on course to attain growth in sales for the full year. Today we presented new models such as the BMW 4 Series Coupé and the third generation BMW X5 (also manufactured in Greer), which will provide for additional momentum towards the end of the year”, said Ian Robertson, of BMW AG, Sales and Marketing BMW.
The X5 was presented Tuesday at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt.
Europe sales were slightly lower than August 2012 with 48,218 vehicles delivered, -2.3 percent.
The demand for BMW vehicles was high last month in Asia and China.
• Asia, 48,620 vehicles, +27.9 percent, 38,002 previous year.
• Mainland China, 34,166, +34.6 percent, 25,377 previous year.
• South Korea, 3,810, +37.7 percent, 2,766 previous year.
